The funeral service for Dr Stanley Ho was held on 10 July, with many well-known politicians and elites attended the funeral to pay their respects.

The vice-president of CPPCC and the former Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa said in his eulogy that the passing of Dr Ho was a great loss for the societies of Hong Kong and Macau.

China’s President Xi Jinping and the premier of China’s State Council, Li Keqiang, sent wreaths to the funeral.

Dr Ho’s daughter Pansy Ho – the Co-Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Ltd, Group Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Shun Tak Holdings and Director of STDM – also read out condolence messages from Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang and other national leaders.

Dr Ho’ son, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho, said he appreciated all the condolence messages from members of the public. He also handled Dr Ho’s portrait when pallbearers carried the casket out of the mourning hall.

Eight people carried the casket of Dr Ho at the funeral, including two vice presidents of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) – Tung Chee-hwa and former Macau Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah.

The other six pallbearers were current Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam, the Deputy Chief of Hong Kong Liaison office, Tan Tieniu, Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wei Nong, the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Bank of East Asia Sir David Kwok-po Li, the Chairman of the board of Hong Kong-listed Asian infrastructure firm Hopewell Holdings Ltd Sir Gordon Wu Ying-sheung, and the ex-chairman of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, Charles Lee Yeh-kwong.
