Nine cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) will allow Macau residents to visit without mandatory quarantine from Monday, indicating that border restrictions between Macau and Guangdong Province are gradually being eased.
Until now, Macau residents have been able apply to enter only Zhuhai without 14-day mandatory quarantine for “business purposes and special reasons,” and were not allowed to travel elsewhere in mainland China.
However, following negotiations between the governments of Macau, Zhuhai and Guangdong Province, eligible Macau residents can now enter nine cities in the GBA in Guangdong Province, namely Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing. They will then be allowed to leave Guangdong Province and enter other mainland provinces after two weeks.
The daily exemption quota currently remains at 3,000 residents per day.
Guangdong Province has gradually eased its medical quarantine restrictions on Macau, starting with the recent lifting of quarantine measures for Chinese non-resident workers and a certain number of Macau residents. This latest easing shows that Macau and Guangdong Province are quickly developing increased mutual trust over COVID-19 preventative work.
