The “618” (June 18) large-scale shopping festival in China has kicked off and Macau’s operators are following up with their own mid-year sale carnivals this year.

Sands China President Dr Wilfred Wong Ying-wa has joined the Alibaba-based online travel platform “Fliggy” to promote Sands’ properties in a uniquely funny and down-to-earth style.

“Hi everyone, I am Sands China President Wong Ying-wa. In Fliggy 618, we will offer the most amusing and best value of IR products to you. All of them are at a knockdown price! Knockdown Price!” Wong announced in his Fliggy promotional video.

Sands staff then ask, “Boss! Boss! This price is too favorable! Are we losing too much?” This is followed by the Chinese character “惊” (meaning “shock!”) bursting onto the screen with a fun sound effect.

“How much we lose, how much we make it up!” Wong cheerily pledges in reply.

According to the Fliggy app, Sands is offering a series of discounts on hotel, dining, exhibition and leisure services at its Macau properties. Among the offers, customers can book hotel rooms with discounted prices during the “618” festival period but with a check-in date of any time this year. All pre-sale bookings can be 100% refunded if expired.

As previously reported by IAG, Macau’s five-star hotel occupancy rate dropped to just 6.6% in April after the Zhuhai government imposed mandatory quarantine on Macau arrivals.
