The average occupancy rate of hotel guest rooms plunged by 78.6 percentage point year-on-year to 12.9% in April, while the rate of 5-star hotels fell by even more, some 85.9 percentage points to just 6.6%.
The latest figure released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) also showed the number of available guest rooms decreased by 12.3% to 34,000 compared with last year.
A total of 107,000 guests checked into hotels or guesthouses in April, a decline of 90.6% year-on-year, while guests from mainland China fell by 91.1% year-on-year to around 70,000.
The average length of stay of guests extended by 0.9 nights year-on-year to 2.3 nights.
The average occupancy rate of hotels declined by 57 percentage points year-on-year to 34.8% in the first four month of this year, while the number of guests also dropped by 65.9% to 1,581,000.
