The Kyushu Regional Strategy Conference, consisting of seven governors of Kyushu plus Yamaguchi and Okinawa prefectures, has issued its three primary expectations of operators looking to develop an integrated resort in Nagasaki.
The list formed part of a broader message issued by the group on Monday in which it expressed its “respect and empathy” for the difficult circumstances the spread of COVID-19 has brought to the global integrated resort industry.
Outlining the three specific items it is looking for from an IR partner, the Kyushu Regional Strategy Conference highlighted:
- The international promotion of various attractions in Kyushu such as Japan’s representative hot springs and cooperation with the tourism industry to promote excursions within the region.
- The international promotion of the rich and high quality food ingredients of Kyushu, which reap the benefits of a mild climate and seasonal ocean currents, and the proactive procurement of ingredients used in facilities within the IR from the Kyushu region.
- The proactive involvement and cooperation with regional development and companies that contribute to a more vibrant Kyushu.
The Conference added that it aims for broader cooperation around an integrated resort that incorporates more than just a single company or local government, pointing to a “Kyushu is One” sentiment shared by all prefectural governors and economic leaders involved.
The Kyushu Regional Strategy Conference was formed in 2003 – comprising governors of the seven prefectures of Kyushu, as well as those from Yamaguchi and Okinawa prefectures and representatives of economic bodies – to exchange and discuss opinions.
Under the concept of Kyushu is One, the public and private sectors work together to promote development strategies and measures for Kyushu. It is held in the spring and fall every year.
In June 2019 the Conference resolved to support a Kyushu/Nagasaki IR with Kyushu as the focus for the region.
