Macau visitor numbers down 99.7% in April to just 11,000

Only 11,041 visitors arrived in Macau in April due to border restrictions, representing a massive 99.7% year-on-year plunge and a 94.8% fall compared with March.

According to the latest figures released by the Statistics and Census Service, overnight visitors stayed significantly longer than previously due to mandatory quarantine measures in Macau and Guangdong, increasing their average stay by 18.9 days from 2.2 to 21.1 days.

Mainland visitors declined by 99.6% in April compared with last year to just 10,500, with those from the nine cities of the Greater Bay Area down by 99.4% to 4,410.

Just 61 visitors entered the city by air. Likewise, only 328 and 210 visitors arrived in Macau from Hong Kong and Taiwan, respectively.

Total visitor arrivals for the first four months of 2020 has dropped by 76.6% year-on-year.
