Singapore Turf Club has revealed it is working with the government to convert selected areas of Singapore Racecourse into temporary recovery facilities for foreign workers infected with COVID-19.
The selected areas will include the sheltered arena at Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre as well as two car parks, with construction and building work expected to be completed by the end of the month. All three areas have already been marked as restricted zones with no public access.
In a statement, Singapore Turf Club said such recovery facilities are “an integral part of the nationwide medical strategy to deploy medical resources optimally and prevent our healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
“Tote Board and Singapore Turf Club stand united with Singapore and all Singaporeans in our common fight against COVID-19. We seek the understanding and patience of all stakeholders as all of us need to play our part to help Singapore overcome this COVID-19 challenge together.”
The use of Singapore Racecourse facilities comes after Genting Cruise Lines announced last week it would provide two of its cruise ships to temporarily house foreign workers in Singapore who have recovered from COVID-19.
