New Zealand’s SkyCity Entertainment Group says it has reactivated a number of key development projects at its domestic properties this week after the government dropped the nation’s COVID-19 Alert Level down to Level 3.
No development works were permissible during Alert Level 4, however the revised status has allowed SkyCity to recommence work on selected projects, the company said, including the refurbishment of premium gaming rooms, creation of a new “Entertainment Zone” on the main gaming floor and development of new food and beverage venues at SkyCity Auckland. Refurbishment of the main gaming floor, including a new baccarat area, at SkyCity Hamilton has also restarted.
In a filing early Friday morning, the company also said it hopes to re-open its properties, which remain closed, as early as 11 May when the government determines whether to further reduce to Alert Level 2.
However, any re-opening would take place progressively. While premium gaming areas would open as normal, SkyCity said it will create distinct zones on its main gaming floors in order to align with limitations on mass gatherings of no more than 100 people in any static location. It will also limit the number of people at any one gaming table and reconfigure EGMs to ensure appropriate social distancing.
