Sheraton Grand Macao is no longer being used as a designated quarantine venue after the last remaining lodgers completed their 14-day mandatory medical observation period and returned home on Thursday.
The hotel was named as Macau’s 12th quarantine venue on 27 March, providing 2,000 up to rooms for the government to use as special quarantine areas. Only 500 rooms were utilized.
A total of 163 people now remain in two designated hotels for quarantine – Pousada Marina Infante Hotel and Golden Crown China Hotel. The two hotels provide a total of 598 rooms, as the government believes this is enough for its current needs.
“Countries all over the world, especially nearby areas, have encouraged people to stay home,” said officials from the Macao Government Tourism Office.
“We can see border and transportation restrictions in place around the world, so passenger flows and visitation have plunged sharply. We have evaluated that the two hotels are enough for us at this moment.
“Many hotels have told us they are willing to be utilized again if the government is in need.”
The Public Security Force estimated that around 212,000 visitors entered Macau in March.
