Legislators have urged the Macau government to carry out negotiations and discussions with Guangdong Province in order to remove entry restrictions between the neighboring jurisdictions sooner rather than later.
Before the Legislative Assembly started its agenda for plenary sessions last Thursday, legislators Ma Chi Seng and Lao Chi Ngai expressed their concerns for the massive plunge in tourists to Macau due to the impact of the COVID-19.
“Tourists are the key for recovering the local economy … Macau should imitate or directly adopt the epidemic prevention health code standards and systems from mainland China with national recognition connected with other cities in the mainland,” the legislators stated.
Concerned that domestic demand cannot sustain the local economy in the long-term, legislator Song Pek Kei also called on Macau to utilize its cooperation mechanism with Guangdong Province to build a special green channel for the use of residents moving between Macau and Guangdong.
