The construction site of Galaxy Entertainment Group’s Galaxy Macau Phase 3 has been found to pose a hazard at height by the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL).

The DSAL has issued a suspension order to stop all work at height or involving the use of scaffolding after three workers were killed and four injured when scaffolding collapsed on Tuesday. It has also filed punishment procedures against those deemed responsible in accordance with the “Regulation of Hygiene and Safety in Public Construction Work.”

Work won’t resume until construction workers have fully implemented safety improvements, submitted a detailed report and been given the green light to proceed by the DSAL.

Officials have also met with the site’s contractors and other representatives in charge, reiterating the necessity to improve and strengthen safety management and awareness.

Galaxy Entertainment Group issued a statement earlier this week in which it said, “GEG would like to express our deepest regrets over the accident, and extend our most heartfelt sympathies to the workers and their family members. After the incident, GEG has taken all necessary actions and fully cooperated with the authorities to carry out rescue work and investigation.

“In addition, GEG has tasked the contractor to conduct a thorough review of all safety measures on the construction site and ensure all related rules and regulations are strictly abided by all relevant parties. Since the case is under police investigation, no further information can be provided at this stage.”
