Genting Malaysia has announced that its Malaysian resort, Resorts World Genting, as well as hotels and facilities at Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi, will remain closed until 14 April after Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin extended the nation’s Movement Control Order on Thursday.
The company had originally planned to open on 1 April after shutting for two weeks from 17 March 2020.
The closure includes the casino, hotel facilities, food and beverage outlets, Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, all entertainment facilities, attractions, shopping malls and retail outlets, although essential resort-based services such as security, utilities and clinics will remain operational.
“Operations in our Resorts will resume upon the lifting of the Movement Control Order,” Genting Malaysia said. “We will continue to assess the situation on a daily basis and make the necessary announcements as more information becomes available.”
The company’s UK casinos, including Resorts World Birmingham, are also closed after Prime Minister Boris Johnson placed the country into lockdown, although Genting Malaysia noted that its online business, GentingBet.com, continues to operate.
