The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reached 30 in Macau on Wednesday after an Australian tourist tested positive.
The patient is a 52-year-old man from Australia who had visited the United States and United Kingdom before arriving in Macau on 16 March. He claimed that he mostly stayed in Pousada de Coloane Boutique Hotel between 16 and 20 March but had visited The Venetian Macao on 19 March via bus. He attempted to enter the casino but was rejected because he wasn’t carrying his passport.
On 20 March he returned to Macau after being refused entry to Hong Kong International Airport. However, he was subsequently required to undergo quarantine at Grand Coloane Resort. After a virus test on 24 March, it was confirmed he was infected with COVID-19.
Macau has confirmed a growing number of imported cases in recent days as students studying abroad have returned to the city, including four from the United Kingdom.
On the first day of tighter restriction towards arrivals from Hong Kong and Taiwan, who are now required to undergo a 14-day quarantine, the number of visitors from each location dropped 96.3% and 92.5% respectively.
