Macau gaming concessionaire SJM says it is looking into mobilizing its hotel resources and hopes to provide at least one more hotel for the government to use as a quarantine base in its battle to control the spread of COVID-19.
Responding to Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng’s questioning of the CSR contributions of Macau’s six gaming licensees during the coronavirus pandemic – particularly their willingness to provide hotels for quarantined residents – SJM told Inside Asian Gaming that most of its hotel rooms are currently being used by non-resident employees, but said is actively addressing the government’s concerns.
“As a majority of hotel rooms operated by SJM have been allocated for non-local employees who reside in Zhuhai and are required to work in Macau during the epidemic, SJM is looking into mobilising its hotel resources hoping to make available a hotel soon to provide support for the control work of the government,” the company said.
SJM’s parent company STDM and partners have already offered Grand Lapa Hotel, Grand Coloane Resort and Regency Art Hotel as medical observation venues. SJM has also closed Casino Taipa at Regency Art Hotel and Casino Eastern at Grand Lapa Hotel due to their proximity to quarantine venues.
As of Wednesday, the SAR government had requisitioned nine hotels as quarantine venues. They are Pousada Marina Infante, Golden Crown China Hotel, Regency Art Hotel, Grand Coloane Resort, Treasure Hotel, Metropole Hotel, Grand Lapa Hotel, Grand Harbour Hotel and the two-star guest house San Tung Fong Commercial Inn.
