The American Gaming Association (AGA) has revealed that 100% of the United States’ 465 commercial casinos will be closed as of midday on Wednesday.
Commercial casinos in Deadwood, South Dakota will become the last in the country to shut their doors following an order form the mayor, while only 16 of 524 tribal casinos nationwide remain open for business.
The mass, unprecedented closures affect almost the entire US Casino workforce of 649,000 people and are expected to see a combined US$43.5 billion stripped from the economy assuming the casino remain closed for two months.
The AGA also revealed recent numbers impacting businesses around the US casino industry, with 28% of travelers having deferred planned trips, 40% of group meetings and events scheduled for the next four months cancelled and a 56% reduction in seated diners at restaurants even before individual states began ordering restaurant closures.
As previously reported by Inside Asian Gaming, the closure of casinos includes all 440 casinos in the state of Nevada, home of the Las Vegas Strip.
