Scientific Games shows improved FY19 results despite falling back into loss in fourth quarter

Scientific Games Corp fell back into loss in the three months to 31 December 2019 with the company reporting a 2.6% decrease in revenue, primarily due to lower machine unit sales and fewer systems launches in Canada compared with the prior year period.

Net loss in 4Q19 was US$37 million versus net income of US$207 million 12 months ago, although that 2018 quarter included a US$183 million reversal following the resolution of a Shuffle Tech legal matter.

Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA fell slightly to US$328 million due to lower Lottery and Gaming AEBITDA, which was partially offset by a 75% increase in Digital AEBITDA to US$21 million.

By segment, Gaming revenue fell 5% to US$445 million and SciPlay by 1% to US$113 million, while Lottery and Digital both saw 1% increases to US$233 million and US$72 million respectively.

Despite the fourth quarter decline, Scientific Games’ FY19 revenue climbed by US$37 million to US$3.4 billion, with net loss narrowing from US$352 million to US$118 million. Consolidated AEBITDA increased slightly to US$1.33 billion.

“I’m confident we have the right team in place to reach our goal to be the market leader across land-based gaming, lottery, sports and digital gaming driven by leading content and the platforms that enable play anywhere and anytime. Our recent contract and deal wins across our businesses, and the globe, highlight that we are on the right path.”
