Organizers of the Triton Super High Roller Series have put the Asian leg of the elite high stakes poker tournament series on hold and warned it may be cancelled altogether due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
Originally scheduled for 10 to 22 February at Jeju Shinhwa World’s Landing Casino in Jeju, South Korea, the event had already been postponed once with Triton Poker announcing in January that it would confirm new dates within three weeks. Instead, an updated statement was issued this week in which organizers simply said they were continuing to monitor the situation. It was also noted that “if the Coronavirus pandemic continues to worsen over the next several weeks, a decision to cancel Triton Jeju 2020 is a possibility.”
Triton isn’t the only poker tournament series to have felt the impact of COVID-19, with the World Poker Tour last week cancelling its upcoming event in Vietnam and re-scheduling another in Taiwan due to virus concerns.
However, the Asian Poker Tour announced this week that it was business as usual for its own Taiwan event, to be held in Taipei from 4 to 15 March.
