Macau’s six gaming concessionaries and several junket operators have donated over MOP$200 million to assist relief efforts and control of the novel Coronavirus in mainland China.
The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR published its list of donations last week, with leading VIP operator Suncity Group topping the list with total donations of MOP$41.5 million.
The donations include RMB$10 million (MOP$11.5 million) personally donated by Suncity Group CEO Alvin Chau to his hometown, Zhaoqing City in Guangdong Province.
The six gaming concessionaires have all made similar donations with Galaxy Entertainment Group, MGM China, SJM and Wynn Macau donating MOP$20 million each, while Sands China donated MOP$20 million to assist the mainland in its efforts to combat the virus and another MOP$5 million to support the local Macau community.
Melco’s HK$20 million (MOP$20.5 million) donation will go to the Red Cross Society in Hubei Province, where the virus originated.
Macau’s “Big 4” junket operators have made donations, including Tak Chun Group which announced over the weekend a HK$20 million donation to go with 100,000 face masks for Hubei Province, and another 100,000 face masks for the Macau SAR.
Meg-Star Group had given MOP$10 million for the establishment of the “Wuhan Coronavirus Special Fund” in accelerating anti-epidemic measures in Wuhan and Hubei Province, while Guangdong Group also donated HK$10 million through the Liaison Office.
