Macau’s Health Bureau has ordered all casino workers to wear respiratory face masks while working.
According to an announcement by Macau’s gaming regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), the director of the Health Bureau issued the notice on Wednesday in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 2/2004 on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, requiring all those working in casinos to wear respiratory protective masks during work.
The order is aimed at preventing the potential spread of the deadly Wuhan Coronavirus, which had killed 18 people, infected more than 630 and spread from mainland China to at least seven other countries as of late Thursday.
The DICJ said it has already begun inspections of the SAR’s casinos to ensure compliance, adding that employees in 39 casinos were complying with the order as well as stepping up cleaning of IR facilities.
“During the Lunar New Year, DICJ inspectors will be stationed at the casinos to monitor the admission and operation of the casinos for 24 hours, and will continue to review various epidemic prevention measures of gaming companies,” it said.
The DICJ earlier this month issued a directive for operators to conduct temperature tests of guests and staff at casino entrances and promised to assist in purchasing additional temperature detection equipment in order to strengthen its prevention and control measures for the Wuhan virus.
