The Chairman and CEO of PAGCOR, Andrea Domingo, says the Philippines gaming regulator is studying the online gaming environments of other jurisdictions with an eye to strengthening its own regulations.
Domingo’s comments were contained in an interview with Clarion Events, organizer of the upcoming ICE London, where she will deliver a keynote address as part of the two-day ICE Vox conference.
Asked about PAGCOR’S presence at the event, to be held from 4 to 6 February 2020 at ExCeL London, Domingo said, “Considering that there are a lot of offshore gaming participants in ICE London, this will help PAGCOR in the development of its offshore gaming products, both procedurally and market wise.
“Since [the Philippines’ POGO industry] was launched in 2016, PAGCOR is focused on further improvement by issuing legal and reasonable regulations and fees, proper and accurate auditing and creation of new markets; protection of players, bets and investors.
“PAGCOR is also learning from the regulations of the other jurisdictions on offshore gaming and we aim to apply those that are applicable.”
Domingo also noted that raising revenue from the Philippines’ growing POGO industry remained a key goal of the regulator, stating, “PAGCOR wants to be abreast with all the developments in the industry, including offshore gaming, since this will greatly help in revenue generation for the purposes of government and socio-civic projects.
“We are focused on being one of the top revenue generating government-owned and controlled corporations and contributors to government and socio-civic projects, whilst also being recognized as a respected regulator where the gaming operations are properly regulated and fair play is ensured and protected.”
Domingo issued a similar sentiment during an address at last month’s G2E Asia @ the Philippines in which she revealed that a government-imposed moratorium on the issuance of new licenses for both land-based and online operators would remain in place into 2020 to give PAGCOR more time to fully develop its regulatory policies.
