Experienced hotelier Chikako Shimizu has been announced as General Manager of Andaz Macau ahead of the hotel’s launch in the first half of 2021.
The luxury lifestyle hotel is set to become a key facility of Galaxy Macau’s new Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC), offering more than 700 rooms and suites, a dedicated check-in lounge catering to large MICE groups, an Andaz lounge, a bar and restaurant, state-of-the-art fitness center and an indoor pool.
According to Andaz, Ms Shimizu is a “Hyatt and Andaz veteran” who will bring a “keen understanding of the unique experience offered by the luxury lifestyle hospitality brand of Andaz which perfectly complements the highly-anticipated Galaxy International Conference Center.”
She offers more than 25 years of experience to the role, which will see her serve as brand ambassador to bring the culture of the “vibrant lifestyle hotel” to life.
“I am very excited to introduce the Andaz brand to such a special city like Macau that has so much history and culture to share,” said Shimizu, who most recently served as Director of Operations at Andaz Singapore. “Once opened, the hotel will bring to life the vibrancy of this fascinating city by offering distinct experiences designed to stimulate the senses and deliver thoughtful, unscripted service for curious-minded guests in search of inspiring sights, sounds, tastes and immersive local experiences that is unique to Macau.”
Galaxy Entertainment Group announced in August that GICC – which it described as Asia’s most technologically advanced event facility – would form part of Galaxy Macau’s Phase 3 development.
When open, GICC will cover 40,000 square meters of MICE space including a 10,000-square meter exhibition and conference hall. It will also be home to the 16,000-seat Galaxy Arena for concerts and sporting events.
Galaxy Macau’s current hotel brands include The Ritz-Carlton Macau, Banyan Tree Macau, JW Marriott Hotel Macau, Hotel Okura Macau, Galaxy Hotel and Broadway Hotel.
