Japan’s Upper House has passed by a majority agreement of all parties the appointment of Michio Kitamura as first Chairman of the Casino Administration Committee – the supervisory body tasked with regulating the nation’s integrated resorts.
As previously reported by Inside Asian Gaming, Kitamura was one of five individuals presented to both chambers of the Diet last month as nominated members of the Casino Administration Committee, which will be formally established on 7 January 2020.
The other four members are former head of the Nagoya Regional Taxation Bureau Hiroyuki Kane, psychiatrist Michiko Watanabe, Keio University special professor Noriko Endo, and former police chief director Kenji Higuchi.
Kitamura previously served as the Sendai Prosecutor General from 2012, Fukuoka Prosecutor General from 2014 and Ministry of Defense Inspector from April 2015 to March 2018.
