Macau’s visitor numbers edged forward once again to 3,209,751 in October 2019, up 1.8% year-on-year according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The recent trend of fewer visitors staying overnight – hampered by a lack of hotel room supply – continued with overnight visitation (1,474,919) dropping by 4.8%. Same day visitors increased by 8.1% to 1,734,832.
The number of visitors from mainland China fell 1.5% year-on-year to 2,342,373, while those from Hong Kong (567,777) and Taiwan (84,797) increased by 11.5% and 3.6% respectively.
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge continued to impact mode of arrival with visitor arrivals by land increased up 21.6% year-on-year to 2,451,233, of which 347,959 came via the bridge. Conversely, those arriving by ferry fell 48.4% to 440,067.
Visitor arrivals for the first 10 months of 2019 have totaled 33,412,657, an increase of 15.3% year-on-year, with same day visitation up 28.0% to 17,664,007 and overnight visitation up 3.9% to 15,748,650.
