The Constitutional Democratic Party of Kanagawa has announced the establishment of a Casino Problems Countermeasures HQ in Yokohama City, aimed at opposing an integrated resort.
The HQ will participate in activities such as a people’s vote on whether they agree with an IR or not, and collecting signatures via petition for the purpose of pressuring Mayor Fumiko Hayashi.
The head of the office is Tomoko Abe, member of the House of Representatives for Kanagawa’s 12 wards.
On 31 October, Mr Abe submitted a “Questionnaire regarding a second request for comments on the fundamental policy for the development of specified complex tourist facilities, including a casino,” raising questions about how the public could comment on the IR certification application period decision.
In response to the question, “What did the government consider when determining the application period?” the government responded, “Along with considering the time required for necessary procedures such as certification application, parliamentary voting, implementation of measures necessary to reflect the views of citizens as well as private operator selection, creation of area improvement plans, and public hearings, it was determined based on the perspective that there will be early impact of specified complex tourist facilities.”
