Oversees Japan’s second largest pachinko operator
It’s been a rough ride for Japan’s pachinko and pachislot industry, with declining popularity among the younger generation and increasingly tight regulations governing payouts and machine volatility having hit operators hard in recent years.
The result has been a significant rationalizing of the industry, but among the survivors is Dynam Japan – the country’s clear second largest operator fighting back against the squeeze.
Dynam has been actively looking to revitalize its pachinko business by changing its focus from high playing cost halls to low playing cost halls and targeting entertainment over volatility.
In its most recent results announcement, the company said it “must manage our business so that our customers consider the time and money they spend in our halls are at acceptable levels for everyday entertainment. Therefore, the Group practices chain store management as one of its management policies.
“Managing our pachinko halls at low cost leaves space to enable us to entertain customers with low playing cost games, which in turn leads to the realizing of everyday entertainment.”
The results have been encouraging, with Dynam having recorded a slight 1.2% increase in revenue to JPY36.3 billion (US$334.2 million) in the three months to 30 June 2019. The increase came on the back of a 4.1% rise in gross pay-ins at its low playing cost halls, while the number of high cost halls under its operation fell from 180 to 176 during the same period.
