GLI’s Bulletproof solution helps gaming companies around the world protect themselves from the growing risk of cyber attacks.

Forbes estimates that cybercrime will cost the global economy US$6 trillion by 2021. That’s more than all the natural disasters that occur in a year and far exceeds the global trade in illegal drugs.

It’s widely known that the Asia-Pacific region is one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies. However, some APAC countries are also known to have IT infrastructures which are more susceptible than others to attack by cybercriminals.

Asia has repeatedly been hit hard by cyberattacks. Cybercrime has cost the Philippines potentially US$3.5 billion in economic losses. In 2018, 1.5 million patients of Singapore’s SingHealth outpatient clinics had their personal information stolen in what was the city-state’s largest data breach ever.

The gaming industry is not immune from this pervasive cyber threat. Between 2015 to 2017, one of the most well-known and largest hotel and casino chains was hit by a series of data breaches. This resulted in credit card information being stolen as well as the POS and Sabre booking systems being compromised at 11 of the chain’s hotels.

In 2016, one of the world’s largest and well-known sports betting websites was intermittently shut down for three days by the Mirai botnet. And in another infamous incident, a casino in the US installed a fish tank with an automatic feeder controlled by an iPhone. Hackers in Finland gained control and plundered billions of bytes of sensitive data.

Another major Las Vegas casino operator’s POS card processing system at 20 properties was infected with malware that stole guests’ credit card information. The attack went undetected for a year and affected thousands of guests.

Which raises the question: How many IT doors are you leaving open? If you’re not sure, then your data is not secure!

Taking casino cybersecurity lightly not only puts your patron’s data at risk, but it can also detrimentally impact your casino financially, severely damage your reputation, and even potentially jeopardize your gaming license. In today’s technologically interconnected world, the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s no wonder the Macau government recently enacted legislation requiring casinos to monitor and record network operating status, report incidents and document the results of risk assessments.

Hackers in Finland stole 10 gigabytes of data from a North American casino after gaining access via a remote-controlled fish tank.

Sophisticated technology not only powers modern casinos, but it potentially exposes them to increased risks as well. Threats can also come from within, as employees who are not properly trained can be a casino’s biggest cybersecurity blind spot.

The potential cyber threat increases exponentially when it comes to online gaming. With every new gaming delivery medium, such as in-venue wireless, proxy gaming and mobile wagering, there comes with it new risk. This provides multiple conceivable points of entry for hackers seeking to maliciously gain access for their personal gain.

Cybersecurity shouldn’t be an afterthought. It should be a staple of your everyday business practice. Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) offers the Asia-Pacific market a comprehensive portfolio of world-class cybersecurity and managed IT services through Bulletproof – a GLI Company backed by GLI’s 30 years of unparalleled global gaming and lottery experience, and with five Asia-Pacific labs located in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Macau and Tokyo.

Bulletproof’s team of experts offer a wide range of managed IT and cybersecurity services that are optimized for the gaming and lottery industry, including 24/7 monitoring, threat assessments and incident response. They specialize in maximizing the efficiency, security and compliance of your gaming operations.

Cybercrime has cost the Philippines potentially US$3.5 billion in economic losses.

Bulletproof audits against international information security standards, including ISO 27001 and the World Lottery Association Security Control Standard (WLA SCS) 2016. Their ethical hackers are almost 100% effective in penetrating land-based casino, online, lottery, live dealer and sports-betting operations. Moreover, Bulletproof can turn your employees into your strongest cybersecurity asset with comprehensive Security Aware training and education that is customized to your unique needs.

Whether here in Asia or around the world, the threats from cybercriminals to your IT infrastructure, customer data and reputation are real. Let GLI and Bulletproof provide you with long-term, world-class, customized cybersecurity and managed IT solutions uniquely suited to your specific needs.
