Japanese gaming and entertainment firm Konami Holdings Corp reported a 0.9% decrease in revenue to JPY121.1 billion (US$1.1 billion) and a 16.4% fall in operating profit to JPY20.9 billion (US$193.5 million) for the six months to 30 September 2019, but the decline could have been bigger if not for strong growth in its Gaming (EGMs) and Systems segment.
Konami’s gambling arm enjoyed a 16.2% year-on-year increase in revenue for the period to JPY14.9 billion (US$138 million), with segment profit also up 4.1% to JPY1.7 billion (US$15.7 million). The company attributed the growth to “worldwide development, mainly in Europe, and opening of new casino facilities and integrated resorts (IR) which include casinos.”
It also pointed to improved sales of its Concerto series in Oceania, South America and Europe, as well as installations of its SYNKROS casino management system into casinos globally, “including casinos at large cruise ships in service around the world.”
Gaming and Systems proved to be the only segment to see its revenue and profits rise compared to the same period in 2018, with Digital Entertainment, Amusement and Sports all down.
