Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has extended its campaign to educate the SAR’s concessionaires on a new law banning off-duty gaming workers from casino floors by visiting individual operators to address floor staff.

A day after the DICJ met with representatives of all six concessionaires to detail an amendment to the Gaming Participation Law, which takes effect from 27 December 2019, Sands China revealed the regulator had recently delivered an explanatory session for around 150 of the company’s team members.

Passed by Macau’s Legislative Assembly in December 2018, the amended law will see around 54,000 gaming workers banned from entering Macau’s casinos, including staff directly involved with gaming operations as well as cashiers and cage staff, F&B workers, cleaners, security and more.

The recent explanatory session was aimed at educating Sands China staff on the casino entry ban, its application outside work hours and exceptions to the rule, including a three-day exemption for all staff on the first three days of Chinese New Year.

“Responsible gaming remains a key area of focus for Sands China,” said Sands China President, Dr Wilfred Wong. “We took the lead in setting up a Responsible Gaming department and appointed a chief responsible gaming officer to oversee these efforts. Therefore, we were very pleased to have the DICJ present this information session for our gaming team members, to ensure compliance with local regulations and provide for the well-being of our team members.”
