Macau’s reliance on VIP baccarat is officially a thing of the past with quarterly GGR figures released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) on Wednesday showing that revenue from mass market baccarat has drawn level with VIP.

GGR from mass baccarat in the three months to 30 September 2019 climbed 20.5% year-on-year to MOP$30.58 billion, comprising 43.1% of Macau’s total GGR for the period. That compares with just 34.3% in the same quarter last year and 40.2% in 2Q19.

Meanwhile, revenue from VIP baccarat fell 22.4%, drawing almost exactly level with mass GGR at MOP$31.09 billion. At 43.8% of Macau-wide GGR, its share was also notably down from 54.1% in 3Q18 and 47.1% in the second quarter of this year.

Macau’s operators recorded total quarterly GGR in 3Q19 of MOP$71.00 billion, down 4.2% year-on-year and 3.5% sequentially.

As previously reported by IAG, Macau’s gross gaming revenue snapped a run of three straight months of decline in September with slight 0.6% growth to MOP$22.08 billion. However, analysts are tipping a year-on-year decline of between 3% and 6% for October.
