Australian wagering giant Tabcorp has announced the appointment of former National Rugby League (NRL) and Football Federation Australia (FFA) boss David Gallop to the board as a non-executive director.
One of Australia’s most renowned sports administrators, Gallop’s appointment comes after he recently revealed he will step down from his role as CEO of FFA at the end of 2019 after seven years. He previously served as NRL CEO between 2002 and 2012.
“David has successfully led two of Australia’s highest profile sporting organizations in the NRL and FFA. He brings to our Board a deep understanding of sports administration and the commercial drivers which underpin it,” said Tabcorp Chairman Paula Dwyer.
“David has extensive experience in media rights negotiations, delivering modern sporting content through digital channels, customer experience and in navigating complex stakeholder relationships at a domestic and international level. We look forward to the perspectives he will bring to the Tabcorp Board.”
Gallop will be formally appointed as a director following the receipt of the necessary approvals and will act as an observer in the meantime.
In its announcement, Tabcorp said Gallop’s appointment is “part of an ongoing process of renewal of the Tabcorp Board” with further new director appointments expected in the coming months.
