Leading Asian VIP promoter Suncity Group and Bloomberry Resorts, owner and operator of Solaire Resort & Casino in Manila’s Entertainment City, confirmed their interest in developing an integrated resort in Wakayama, Japan, after unveiling their IR concepts at a symposium held in the prefecture on Monday.

In a presentation to an audience of around 450, including Governor Yoshinobu Nisaka, local politicians, industry representatives and local residents, Suncity executive director John Au said his company would “create a brand new IR in Wakayama that the world has never seen.”

In addition to a massive hotel and exhibition hall, Suncity’s plan includes a possible water taxi port and facilities to introduce tourist spots in the prefecture.

“The site will attract the most well-to-do in Asia as a gathering point for entertainment and traditional culture,” he said.

Vice President of Bloomberry Resorts Japan, Mitsuaki Kiriyama, highlighted his company’s intention to develop a 2,500-room hotel and the world’s largest exhibition hall with capacity for 12,000 people.

“We will develop variety in tourism that includes education, agriculture and fishing in the Kansai area, and cooperate with local governing bodies to achieve a special economic zone,” he added.

European casino operator Barrière, which has already set up an office in Wakayama City, was the other hopeful to offer a presentation with Barrière Japan director Jonathan Strock speaking of the company’s aim to create an IR that blends with Wakayama’s nature.
