Las Vegas Sands has announced it will be the main sponsor of Summer Sonic 2019, to be held in Sonic Park, Mishima, Osaka from 16 to 18 August.

Summer Sonic is an urban rock festival celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Over 30 artists and bands are scheduled to appear, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tash Sultana, Naoto Inti Raymi and Kaela Kimura.

This is the first time Las Vegas Sands has sponsored such a big event in Osaka. Maishima is close to Yumeshima, the candidate IR site for Osaka, and presents a unique PR opportunity for the company to foster relations with the local community and youth at the event.

“Music is one of the representative entertainments offered by Sands’ integrated resorts,” said George Tanasijevich, Managing Director of Global Development. “We are planning to use music and entertainment during events in Osaka to appeal to both tourists and local residents, so Summer Sonic is an ideal festival [to achieve this].”

The Tokyo rendition of Summer Sonic runs simultaneously with the Osaka event, held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Headliners perform at both events, traveling between performances.

Meanwhile, MGM Japan will be cooperating in the Osaka Senshu Summer Festival which will run for two days starting from 24 August. The battle for Osaka is heating up.
