European operator Casinos Austria International has announced that it will be looking to build an IR facility, which is thoroughly Japanese, if a Nagasaki IR bid is successful.
These were the words of Casinos Austria International Japan’s managing director Akio Hayashi, who spoke at the Kyushu Nagasaki Integrated Resort (IR) Business-Connect Seminar held in Nagasaki’s Sasebo city on Thursday. Kengo Kuma, known for his design work on the new national stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. would be in charge of design and architecture.
“It won’t be a fully wooden construction project, but it will be an amazing facility that has not been seen elsewhere in the world. We do not want to sell the gaudiness of Las Vegas or Macau, but we want to create a more European-style IR that will suit a regional city. We are making our preparations,” Hayashi said.
Casinos Austria International is, as its name suggests, 34% owned by the government. Prime Minister Sebastian Kurtz sent a video letter played at the event, stating it would be a great honor to be a part of Nagasaki’s IR.
Founded in 1934, the company has business interests in 13 countries. Further, the Austrian capital of Vienna is considered to be a world capital of music and data indicates that it is second in the number of international conferences held in a city, after the French city of Paris.
“We know that MICE business is key to a Japanese IR and we bring that know-how to the table,” Hayashi emphasized. He also stated that part of the proposal will be functions such as a long-term stay spa, with a special emphasis on state-of-the-art medical treatment.
Taking advantage of its musical tradition, Casinos Austria has also proposed a Viennese Philharmonic Orchestra as a permanent shown in a Nagasaki IR.
