Goa edging closer to shifting offshore casinos to land

Goa’s Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, says finalization of the state’s long-awaited Casino Policy has reached the final stages of consideration but has refused to give any deadline for implementation.

Speaking to local media over the weekend, Sawant confirmed his intention to relocate Goa’s six offshore casino operators to a designated area of land once the law is passed. He also rejected recent calls for all offshore casinos to be shut down, stating it would send the wrong message to investors.

Despite his assurances of progress, Sawant added that finalization of the Casino Policy would still take some time.

Meanwhile, Goan officials have cracked down on the recently launched Big Daddy offshore casino with a show-cause notice issued to the manager due to alleged noise pollution from the ship’s generator. According to Indian gaming news site Glaws, Big Daddy also had hoardings and other illegal structures demolished from the footpaths of Panaji.
