Sands China’s transformation of Sands Cotai Central into The Londoner Macao will see the property’s main façade recreate the architecture of the Houses of Parliament, including a replica of the Big Ben clock, and comprise more than 6,000 hotel rooms across four hotels.
Further details of The Londoner Macao were unveiled at a special media preview on Wednesday in which Las Vegas Sands President and COO Rob Goldstein and Sands China President Wilfred Wong also revealed some of the planned non-gaming amenities.
They include a new 6,000-seat arena, rebranding of the mall to Shoppes at The Londoner, street shows, a VR experience plus a new Dongbei and Sichuan cuisine restaurant, a Thai restaurant, a British styled restaurant named Churchill’s Table and a gastropub by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
The project also broadens the current MICE capabilities and intends to bring West End shows to the theater. A Piccadilly Circus’ Eros statue, double-decker buses, pubs, telephone booths, pop culture, the Changing of the Guards and most of the icons that make London famous, will be part of The Londoner, the company hinted during the presentation.
It may also feature more gaming options, with capacity for up to 450 tables and 2,000 slot machines, although the gaming floor space itself won’t change.
Discussing the upgrades, Dr Wong said Sands China “never underestimated competitors” and that “Macau has the highest standards in hospitality, so everybody is trying to increase quality.”
Non-gaming entertainment options comprise 95% of the budget for The Londoner Macau, Dr Wong added.
