Yokohama port operators will establish the “Yokohama Port Harbor Resort Association” in May as an organization to oppose the establishment of an integrated resort.

Chairman Yukio Fujiki (87) of Fujiki Corporation, the most prominent operator in Yokohama’s city harbor works, stands fast in his opposition of an IR bid, stating, “Overseas operators will just get all the money, not to mention the serious problem of addiction. I don’t care how much money it collects.”

Fujiki’s stance is to revitalize local tourism through avenues unrelated to casinos.

Meanwhile, the city of Yokohama is currently considering the pros and cons of an IR bid. Make no mistake, overseas operators have their eye on how Yokohama will unfold.

However, currently Chairman Fujiki is first in line to lead the Yokohama Port Harbor Resort Association, which will create a significant obstacle for IR supporters.
