Almost 300 guests were evacuated from Korea’s Paradise City integrated resort in Incheon after a fire broke out on the third floor of the hotel on Sunday.
According to local media reports, as many as 38 fire trucks carrying more than 200 firefighters responded to emergency calls shortly after 3pm.
The fire, believed to have started in the women’s sauna, took around 40 minutes to extinguish although there were no casualties reported with all 282 guests safely evacuated.
They were later offered meal vouchers and a free stay to be used anytime within the first half of 2019.
Authorities are reportedly investigating the cause of the fire.
Paradise City, opened in April 2017 as a joint venture between Korea’s Paradise Co and Japan’s Sega Sammy, has endured its fair share of challenges over the past two years – most notable being slower than expected business due to a Chinese ban on Korean visitation following the THAAD missile crisis. However, gaming revenues have been on the rise over the past 12 months with the company recently reporting a year-on-year GGR boost of 15.8% in 2018.
Paradise City also launched the second stage of its Phase 1 development, including the spa, boutique hotel nightclub and shopping mall, in September 2018 and is set to launch its indoor theme park Wonderbox this coming weekend.
