US integrated resort operator Caesars Entertainment has touted its expertise in MICE at a special study session for local municipalities held this week at the Second Members’ Office Building of the House of Representatives in Tokyo and hosted by the Japan IR Association.
Caesars Chief Sales Officer Michael Massari stated, “The global MICE market is continuing to grow, led by Asia,” but added, “Japan’s current major MICE facilities have yet to reach the world standard in size, adjacent hotels and accessibility.”
In addition to local governments vying for Japan’s IR bid, a number of diet members were also in attendance. It was in front of this audience that the four Caesars representatives presented their past achievements in opening and operating new MICE facilities.
Vice-president Steve van der Molen, who is in charge of MICE operations in Atlantic City, emphasized the contribution the Harrah’s Atlantic City Waterfront Conference Center, opened in 2015, has made to the region.
Vice-president Donald Ross introduced Caesars FORUM, which is scheduled to open in March 2020. This property will be the biggest in the world and feature two halls with capacity for over 10,000 people.
Vice-president Lisa Messina stated, “Japan has great potential for MICE,” while also mentioning Japan’s appeal to the MICE market in terms of culture, safety in infrastructure and nature.
MICE will be a key focus for any Japanese IR. This study session served as an opportunity to learn about advancements in the industry.
