Macau’s fragile poker scene has taken another hit with Poker King Club announcing it has cancelled the upcoming Poker King Cup Macau, scheduled to take place at the Venetian from 15 to 21 March 2019.
Poker King Club didn’t give any specific reason for the cancelation, stating only that it had decided not to move forward with the event “due to unforeseen circumstances.”
It added, “This decision was made with utmost regret for the position we leave our players, who have given this event an astounding amount of support, of which Poker King Club is deeply grateful. We hope we can move forward from this and continue to provide you with the best poker service in the future.”
First held in 2017, Poker King Cup Macau is a globally renowned high stakes tournament series that has traditionally also attracted some of the world’s biggest cash games. This year’s series had been set to feature 14 events including a HK$80,000 buy-in High Roller, HK$200,000 Super High Roller and the HK$16,500 Main Event.
The Venetian Macao is home to one of three poker rooms operated by Poker King Club, with the others located at Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila and Maison Glad Hotel Jeju.
Cancellation of the Poker King Cup Macau comes almost 12 months since the popular PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room at City of Dreams – which had hosted the Asia Championship of Poker, Macau Poker Cup and APPT Macau each year – permanently closed its doors.
