Sands Macao has ended the recent spate of Macau poker rooms closing down by launching one of its own over the weekend.

The Sands Macao Poker Room officially welcomed its first players on Saturday afternoon, with Sands China telling Inside Asian Gaming that the decision to introduce poker was designed to diversify the property’s offerings. Sands also operates a poker room at the Venetian Macao.

The new poker room at Sands Macao is modest, with four tables offering games from HK$25/$50 up to HK$2,000/$4,000. Three of those tables were full on opening night.

Located on the main gaming floor alongside the High Limit Area, the room also boasts a generous reception desk, a couch, two sitting chairs and a side table for those waiting to be seated.

Poker has become an increasingly rare commodity over the past 12 months, with City of Dreams evicting PokerStars LIVE Macau last April and Galaxy Macau also shutting down its room around the same time after just 12 months in operation.
