Macau International Airport (MIA) saw its busiest ever Chinese New Year holiday period last week, including a new single day record for passenger volume with over 32,100 people travelling in and out of the SAR by plane on 10 February 2019.
Releasing its figures for the period overnight, MIA said it welcomed a total of 180,000 passengers over six days from 5 to 10 February, with 1,300 flight movements – both up 18% on 2018 CNY airport volume.
The airport noted that those figures were also buoyed by the recent additions of three new international routes in early 2019 including Wenzhou in China, Chiang Rai in Thailand and Cebu in the Philippines. China Southern Airlines and Juneyao Airlines will also add new routes to Macau in the second quarter of 2019.
