Authorities on Korea’s Jeju Island have announced an upcoming crackdown on Korean migrants entering the island’s foreigner-only casinos.
From 31 January to 24 February, Jeju will monitor eight foreigner-only casinos in order to make sure that migrants are properly qualified to enter, according to local media reports.
Casino employees will also be provided with further training to ensure they are aware of updated procedures for Korean migrants introduced last year.
Under the legislation, Korean nationals who have married a foreigner or gained permanent residence overseas for work purposes must show either a foreign passport or ID for a Korean resident abroad as well as documentation confirming their migrant status to enter local casinos.
The crackdown comes after a Korean national whose migrant status had been suspended was found in a Jeju casino in August.
