Malaysia’s Genting Berhad has been given an 11-day reprieve until 29 January by a Nevada judge regarding a request by Wynn Resorts for a temporary restraining order on construction of its neighboring Las Vegas Strip property Resorts World Las Vegas.
As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, US District Court Judge Gloria Navarro has directed the two parties to present their arguments at the end of the month following a complaint filed by Wynn Resorts in December claiming Genting’s US$4 billion IR resembles the Wynn and Encore Las Vegas towers.
Genting Berhad has described Wynn’s as failing to provide any evidence or “coherent or credible explanation” supporting its assertion.
Genting’s local subsidiary, which is due to open Resorts World Las Vegas in late 2020, had previously filed its opposition to an application by Wynn that seeks to halt construction of the property, located directly opposite at the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip.
The opposition vehemently denies that Resorts World Las Vegas will look similar to its nearest neighbor, stating Wynn’s application “is predicated on speculative extrapolation regarding the appearance of the Defendant’s unfinished resort and casino, which is still in an early stage of construction with nearly two years left to go before opening.”
According to Genting, shutting down construction would cost an estimated US$169 million and result in 500 construction workers being laid off.
