Macau’s hotels and guesthouses saw visitation grow by 6.2% year-on-year to 1,163,000 in October, according to latest figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The increase was largely due to strong growth from the mainland China and Hong Kong markets – up 11.3% to 823,000 and 5.9% to 116,000 respectively – and more than made amends for a fall in visitors from Korea and Taiwan.
The average length of stay of guests held steady year-on-year at 1.5 nights, while the average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses grew by 0.7% to 89.8%. That number was boosted by a 1.2% increase in occupancy at 5-star hotels to 91.0% and 1.7% increase at 4-star hotels to 90.8%.
DSEC numbers also revealed that the number of visitors arriving as part of package tours fell 2.0% in October to 784,000, including a 6.8% decline from mainland China to 615,000.
