The number of visitors to Macau grew 9.2% in October, with the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) citing the National Day holiday and the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge as the primary factors behind the increase.
Arrivals totaled 3,154,291 for the month, representing a 23.2% sequential increase, with visitors from mainland China up 12.1% year-on-year to 2,306,844. More than 1 million of those came from Guangdong Province and another 110,850 from Hunan Province, while there were 509,369 visitors from Hong Kong, up 9.3% year-on-year. Arrivals from South Korea (60,240) and Taiwan (81,846) fell by 25.2% and 3.9% respectively.
The number of overnight visitors grew 5.4% to 1,549,891 with average length of stay of all visitors holding steady for the month at 1.2 days.
Arrivals by both land and air grew, with land arrivals up 18.7% year-on-year to 2,015,701 and those reaching Macau by plane up 14.7% to 286,117. Notably, the number of people who arrived via the HZMB during the first eight days of its operation was 71,640.
For the first 10 months of 2018, visitor arrivals totaled 28,967,555, up 8.4% year-on-year, buoyed by a 13.1% increase in those from mainland China to 20,527,999.
