Lisboeta, a new Integrated Resort (IR) inspired by classic Macau venues, will be developed next to SJM’s Grand Lisboa Palace in Cotai, the project’s founder and director Arnaldo Ho, revealed on Thursday.
Operated by Macau Theme Park and Resort Limited (MTPR), Lisboeta will cost HK$5 billion and cover 141,000 square meters of floor space once completed in 2020.
“Lisboeta will become the next classic of the future,” said Ho, the son of Macau gaming godfather Stanley Ho and SJM Co-Chair Angela Leong. Its architecture will be inspired by local landmarks such as Macau’s first casino, Hotel Estoril, the floating casino Macau Palace and the city’s streets as they were last century.
Lisboeta will include three hotels, totalling 820 rooms. Lisboeta Hotel will have 574 rooms, Maison L’Occitane 164 rooms and Casa de Amigo 82 rooms.
Maison L’Occitane will be the first boutique hotel in the world designed by the cosmetics brand with its rooms to be inspired by the company’s products. On the other hand, Casa de Amigo will include rooms decorated with the Friends Line characters.
Lisboeta will also have a zip-line attraction, indoor skydiving facilities and Emperor Cinemas, featuring Macau’s first IMAX and MX4D movie theatres. Emperor Cinemas will have 1,200 seats.
The entertainment offering will be complemented by food and beverage facilities recreating traditional food from Macau. The IR will also include a futuristic retail arcade and space for MICE events.
The name Lisboeta is the taken from the Portuguese word for inhabitants of Lisbon, Portugal, and also the adjective referencing Lisbon as their place of origin.
“It is not a theme park, it is an integrated resort,” said Ho, dismissing previous reports claiming a theme park would be built on the premises. He added that the IR will not include any gaming space with Lisboeta targeting families.
The official launch ceremony was officiated by the directors of MTPR – Arnaldo Ho, Angela Leong, Lee Wai Man and Li Chi Keung.
