The number of people staying in Macau’s hotels and guesthouses grew 16.8% year-on-year to 1,279,000 in August, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The figure included a 25.4% increase in guests from mainland China, while those from Hong Kong (140,000) and Taiwan (42,000) grew by 1.4% and 7.0% respectively. Those from Korea fell 10.9% to 44,000.
The average length of stay of guests rose by 0.1 nights year-on-year to 1.5 nights with the average occupancy rate reaching a record high of 93.3%. The occupancy rates of 5-star and 4-star hotels reached 96.2% and 94.6% respectively.
August’s results mean that the total number of guests in Macau’s hotels and guesthouses for the first eight months of 2018 has reached 9,373,000, up by 8.0% year-on-year. The average occupancy rate during that time increased 3.7 percentage points to 89.3% while the average length of stay of guests held steady year-on-year at 1.5 nights.
