DICJ Director Paulo Martins Chan has told Inside Asian Gaming that he expects some changes to be made to a bill that will effectively ban Macau casino workers from entering the city’s gaming floors before it is passed through the Legislative Assembly.
The bill, which was given preliminary approval in July but is still being examined by a working committee, aims at preventing problem gambling among employees – primarily dealers but also cage staff, cleaners and some food and beverage workers.
Speaking with IAG at the 10th anniversary ceremony of responsible gaming promotions in Macau on Wednesday, Chan revealed that the working committee had hinted some changes will be made.
“It is already entered into the legislative process, the Legislative Assembly, but we have had several meetings with the senators and we are expecting to have minor alterations, adjustments,” he said.
“But I think it is going well. Everyone understands that the main purpose of this law is responsible gambling.”
Chan said he was unsure exactly when the law might be finalized and sent back to the Legislative Assembly for a final reading, but added, “We always give a lot of importance to responsible gambling – for the healthy development of any gaming industry, it is indispensable.”
