Figures released by Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) on Wednesday showed that the local gaming sector workforce rose to 56,271 employees in the second quarter of 2018, an expansion of 1.0% year-on-year. The number of dealers increased 0.3% to 24,062.
The total number of workers hired by the local gaming sector during that period was 1,311, up 26.7% compared to 2Q17.
Wages in the segment rose in June 2018, with full-time employee earnings up 2.5% year-on-year to MOP$23,650 (US$2,940) on average. Dealers’ salaries increased 2.6% to MOP$20,450.
The local job vacancy rate in the sector in 2Q18 decreased 0.2 percentage points to 1.4%. The figure, combined with an increase in the recruitment rate of 0.4 percentage points to 2.3%, indicates sectorial vacancies are becoming scarcer. Most of the vacancies were for clerk positions (72.3%).
Most of the available job opportunities (74.7%) demanded senior secondary education or lower of which 92.5% required a knowledge of Mandarin, 24.9% English and 22.1% previous working experience.
