Sands China Ltd has thrown its support behind the Old District Revitalization Series – Rua de Cinco de Outubro, which aims to help rebuild parts of Macau in the wake of last year’s devastating Typhoon Hato.
Organised by the Macao Association for Promoting Community Economic Development, the initiative launched with a kick-off ceremony on 18 August and includes two events: the Old District Photo Event and a Shopping Carnival. The Macao Economic Bureau, the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute are supporting organisers.
According to Sands China, its support of the event is part of the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts to support the Macau community after Typhoon Hato. The aim of the revitalization project is to help SMEs and the community in the old district area attract more customers and tourists, thereby encouraging a speedier recovery and revitalization of the district. More than 50 local SMEs are participating in the initiative.
“Sands China is very pleased to be supporting the Old District Revitalization Series,” said Sands China President Dr Wilfred Wong.
“We hope this initiative will speed the recovery of SMEs in the old district and will hasten the revitalization of the area. We also hope to promote the history and culture of Macao. Our gratitude goes to the Macao SAR government for the coordination of the event and to the Macao Association for Promoting Community Economic Development.
“Sands China will continue to cooperate with the Macao government to support the community and the development of SMEs, in promotion of the economic development of Macau and the city’s development as a world centre of tourism and leisure.”
